Lindy Miller-Castro
Lindy (she/her) is an instrumentalist and vocalist with a bachelor’s degree in music from Sonoma State University. In the course of her studies, she performed with nearly every ensemble option available, including but not limited to jazz choirs, chamber madrigal choirs, show choir, contemporary a cappella, jazz bands, wind ensembles, percussion ensembles, and symphony chorus. She loves any opportunity to bring voices together in harmony, and in the time of online community, strives to bring the joy of collaborative music to the web. She is currently in school studying to become an SLPA (Speech-Language Pathology Assistant) in order to bring new tools to her Songbirds and to better understand how to use singing as a therapeutic tool in vocal recovery and habilitation.
Musical highlight experiences include: annual Jazz & Pop a cappella variety shows with Pacific Edge Voices, the Bay Area’s Uncommon Chorus; performing at Bear Music Festival and around the Bay with Irish folk band Middlesleep; being a founding member of the chamber choir Circa 1600 under the umbrella of Sonoma Bach; recording Dave Brubeck’s “Brubeck & American Poets” choral works in the historic Skywalker Studios with Pacific Mozart Ensemble; and studying Cuban percussion with folklorico masters at a week-long intensive in Havana.
Lindy has been an endearing part of Songbird since 2016. Her goal with her students is to show them how to access the waiting, expressive, musical and unique voice within. “One does not make one’s self sing, one let’s one’s self sing!” With a focus on ear-training and listening development, her students build the confidence to express themselves in the creative process as well as through performance.
