“Singing takes great courage. Your voice is one of the most intimate things you can share with the world, and I salute those bold enough to try.”
Associate Vocal Coach
Catherine Brady started singing before she could talk. With a slew of older sibling involved in musical theater, she quickly picked up the music bug and was busting out “Hello Dolly” and “Bushel and a Peck” shamelessly around her home, classrooms, and anywhere she could get away with it. She studied Vocal Performance at the Chapman University Conservatory of Music where she was a choral soloist and active member of the Opera program where her favorite roles were Despina in Cosi fan tutteand Prince Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus. She was also a member of the a cappella group, Chapman SoundCheck, and is featured on their album, Everything.
For the past five years, Catherine has been teaching music both privately and in the classroom with students ranging from preschoolers to retirees. She has been an active participant with Children’s Musical Theater San Jose where she acts as a Vocal Director, mentor, and performer. She has performed with Opera San Jose for several years both on the mainstage and in their elementary school outreach program.
A musical explorer and collaborator, Catherine has worked with electronic musicians and local songwriters on a variety of projects. She has been singing dance party favorites with The Geoffrey Luce Band for over ten years, and she can be heard performing an eclectic mix of jazz standards, classic rock and roll, and contemporary pop with the Shades of Grey Band in San Jose. Always eager to perform, she has continued her passion for musical theater with her recent roles including Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, Ellen in Miss Saigon, Diana in Next to Normal, Mother in Ragtime, Cathy in The Last Five Years, and Lady of the Lake in SPAMALOT.
Catherine has been teaching at Songbird since 2018.
