“Everyone has something valuable to say. Why not say it through music?”
Associate Vocal Coach
Cara Ferro is a dramatic soprano with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Delaware. At the university, she was an avid member of the University of Delaware Opera Theatre (UDOT) where she was often seen in lead roles, intricate ensembles, and production staff positions. With UDOT, Cara most recently performed the title role of the Donizetti opera Lucrezia Borgia. At UD, she was also a leader of her award winning a cappella group the MelUDees, a chairperson of Sigma Alpha Iota, and a performer with the Harrington Theatre Arts Company.
As a voice teacher, Cara has worked with the Community Music School of Delaware teaching students ranging from ages 7 to 62. During her graduate studies, she also maintained her own private studio of eclectic students. As a volunteer, Cara enjoyed spending time as a choreographer of full children’s shows with Thurgood Marshall Elementary School through UD’s Project MUSIC: Opera. She also served as the intern for NeuroNotes, a choir comprised of people with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers. Cara is a firm believer that even the least advanced students have something to teach us, and even the most advanced students have something more to learn.
Professionally, as a singer, Cara has participated in the chorus of OperaDelaware and Baltimore Concert Opera. She has won numerous NATS competitions in both classical and musical theatre divisions. She was also awarded the F. Warren James Memorial award upon her undergraduate graduation which granted her the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at UD’s 2016 commencement ceremony.
In the summer of 2017, Cara travelled the world with the UD Chorale and independently, singing numerous solos in songs such as Battle of Jericho, Oh Mary Don’t You Weep, and Variations on Jingle Bells. She ended her world tour in Austria where she performed Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte with the Austrian American Mozart Academy. She was most recently engaged with Spotlight on Opera, a young artist program in Louisiana. As a young artist she sang in the musical theatre cabaret, aria showcase scenes program and outreach concerts. She also sang the lead role of Mimì in La Bohème and served as a production assistant. Cara is currently studying at San Francisco Conservatory of Music and is in pursuit of her post-graduate certificate in voice performance.
Cara has been a member of the Songbird Team since 2018.
