The A Cappella Experience with Robert Lee
When we think of A Cappella, what comes to mind is live performance. However, when you listen to the studio albums of Straight No Chaser, Pentatonix, or the Nor’easters, you’re usually not hearing one take of all of the singers in the same room. Instead, singers are recorded one at a time, and the individual voices are combined in post-production to create the final track.
AcaX will dive into this virtual, recording-focused format. It’s a six-week program which will culminate into a professionally produced audio/video creation, revealed at a live viewing party via Zoom.
Through a series of lectures, case studies, and activities, AcaX will cover all the nuts and bolts of a cappella 101. The applied portion of the class will be centered around studio-style recording (the behind-the-scenes side of A Cappella) along with the exciting element of video recording and the art of creating a polished piece of art that you’ll feel proud to release into the virtual world!
While AcaX is limited in some ways by not meeting in person, we’ve gone to great lengths in adjusting the format to make it even MORE FUN & enriching.
You’ll meet each Saturday at 5pm for 1.5 hours. You’ll prepare two songs & learn everything you ever wanted to know about being in a REAL A CAPPELLA GROUP!
The first meeting is November 7th, and the viewing party is December 19th (No meeting on the weekend of November 28th).
It is recommended that participants have:
- Strong capability to hold a melody and ignore distractions
- Some ability to harmonize
- Reasonable volume, range, & confidence to sing loudly
- Ability to respond well and quickly to feedback
- Previous choral / a cappella experience is a plus (but not required)
This round of The A Cappella Experience will be limited to high school age and older!
